Looove these! Some of my favorite Frazetta work period.I also love the way they show up from your site-perfect sizes! Thanks Mr. Doortree!
On one hand, Frank Frazetta's work here has a sensibility that was already out of fashion (in the late '60s world of commercial illustration), hearkening back to the classic pen-and-ink work of Joseph Clement Coll, J. Allen St. John, and others of the early 20th century---and yet it's perfect for this type of fantasy (set in the Victorian era), and actually looks fresher today than a lot of the other (now very dated) 1960s illustrators' work who defined 'the moment'---but that moment is long past. An interesting irony! There are classic archetypes in art (and the arts) which temporarily fall out of fashion, but, over time, prove to have far more 'staying power' over many generations. Frazetta's best drawings and paintings fit into this category.
